Reports in Italy are suggesting Napoli could try to sign Wojciech Szczesny at the end of the season.
In August, Szczesny joined AS Roma on a season long loan with an option to buy but it seems the goalkeeper will be returning to the Emirates at the end of the season.
Yesterday, A report claimed Roma have baulked at signing the Poland international permanently because they won’t be able to afford the €16m fee which they’d have to pay to sign him permanently.
And now Calcio Mercato via Inside Futbol are claiming Napoli are considering making a move for the goalkeeper next summer.
The report claims Napoli wants to get rid of former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina and they see Szczesny as a perfect replacement.
Szczesny has been impressive for Roma this season and could fancy a move to Napoli if he isn’t sure of playing regularly at Arsenal.
I am not sure of what Arsenal wants to do about Szczesny’s future but we will have to make a decision next summer because the player will have just one year left in his Arsenal contract by then.
Petr Cech is currently our first choice goalie and there is no sign that he would drop to the bench next season, which will make a Szczesny return difficult.
Szczesny is 26 while the Cech is 34, the former could save us the stress of searching for a goalkeeper for at least the next eight years while the latter is still one of the best in the league and none would want to sit on the bench next season.
We will have to wait until next summer to see what happens as regards the Szczesny’s future but we are hoping the club makes the right decision.
