Draxler admits he wanted Arsenal move.
Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of long-term admirer, Julian Draxler, according to reports.
An account from Metro revealed that the World Cup winner was intercepted by Moh Haider of Arsenal FanTV and, during the brief conversation, stated in one “Yes” that he was now ready to make the move to North London. The 20 year old Schalke star has long been on the Gunners radar, as it is believed Arsene Wenger sees him as the long term solution to the void left in the center-forward role following the likes of Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie.
Draxler, whose current contract with the German outfit contains a clause of £37million, was said to have earlier mentioned that he had indeed been contacted by Arsenal during the January window earlier this year but chose to continue his development at his boyhood club. However, with the retirement of Miroslav Klose and the apparent shortage of options in that mould for the German national team, the young man appears to be gearing up to take that role upon himself, thus favouring a move to the Manager who has indicated an interest to transform him so.
Arsene Wenger has an impressive legacy of converting players into positions where they have gone on to flourish, the two former captains mentioned above as the most recent successes. And with Draxler, who has been flexibly deployed across any of the three attacking positions behind the main striker, has the frame and potential to respond to the Frenchman’s famous wand of conversion.
At such a young age, it is very reasonable to believe that such a process will have no backlashes whatsoever. On the contrary, he is in the best time to learn and adapt his game to the new role. Henry himself joined Arsenal at a similar age, though with a significantly higher dose of experience. It is interesting, though, that both of them were World Cup Winners and if Draxler is convinced enough to leave Schalke within the next 9 months, history may repeat itself – a prospect which will have Gooners in all manner of fantasy.
The Manager has repeatedly voiced his regret at not signing Cristiano Ronaldo when he had the opportunity to do so. You feel he mentions just the Madrid star because it would take a autobiography to get the full list of those who got away. There is now the opening to sign one who has been designated by many as ‘the New Ronaldo’ due to his resemblance, both in frame and ability, and if he’s allowed to run out of patience or told that his place is currently occupied by Sanogo, not many will listen to any presser in 2025 when we will be told of how close we could have snapped up “4 time World Player of the Year” while he plays for another club.
