Arsenal remain in talks with Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and hope to reignite a move for the Frenchman after having a £90m bid accepted last summer.

The Gunners were prepared to smash their club transfer record to sign Lemar last summer and believed they could wrap up a deal on deadline day after having a bid accepted.

However, Manchester City failed to meet Arsenal’s valuation for Alexis Sanchez and a move for Lemar collapsed – much to the Frenchman’s disappointment.

Chelsea have since entered the bidding for Lemar and are prepared to offer the likes of Michy Batshuayi to convince Monaco to part with the winger.

However, L’Equipe claim Arsenal have maintained ‘regular contact’ with Lemar and will make another bid for the Frenchman at the end of the season.

Lemar is said to be desperate to move to the Premier League and Arsenal will monitor Liverpool and Chelsea’s moves in January to see if they move for Lemar.

With Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil expected to leave, Wenger will need replacements and a significant chunk of the club’s wage bill will be freed up.

Lemar is most comfortable on the left wing but is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder or as a second striker.
