Mathieu Debuchy has revealed he wants to put an end to his frustrating time at the Emirates by leaving Arsenal permanently this winter.
The defender joined Arsenal from Newcastle in 2014 but never really got going. He suffered a serious injury in his early days here and hasn’t been able to get back into the team since then due to the superb form of Hector Bellerin.
He has been out of the first team for over two years and now wants a swift resolution of his future.
He featured just once for Arsenal in the whole of 2016 and the 31 year old has revealed he wants to leave the club permanently this month.
Clubs have already indicated their interest in signing the defender on loan but the player has revealed he will prefer a permanent exit.
“I am looking for an exit door,” he told L’Equipe, as quoted by the Daily Star.
“I want to try a new challenge, to throw everything back into something, to quite simply do my job in a normal way.
“At one moment or another, you start to miss the excitement, the adrenaline.
“I would prefer a straight transfer but I am only an employee. If the club says no to me, what can I do?”
Debuchy is currently nursing an hamstring injury and is not expected to return to action until mid-January. No decision will be made on his future until he returns to full fitness.
A move away from the Emirates is definitely the best decision for Debuchy and we can only wish him the best if he is able to get his wishes.
Nevertheless, the defender’s exit along with Jenkinson’s impending exit will pose serious problem to Arsenal as his exit will leave Bellerin as our only fit right back and this could be dangerous going into the second half of the season.
