Despite lots of criticism from fans following his poor performances for the Gunners all through the season, Nigeria international winger Alex Iwobi is set for another contract by the end of the season.
According to a reliable report from ScoreNigeria, the player whose current contract expires in 2020 is believed to be offered a two-year contract which will keep him at the Emirates stadium till 2022. The report also suggests that the new deal is expected to see his weekly wages rise from £30,000 to £36,000.
Many Arsenal fans have called on the club’s board of directors to send him on a loan move to any Premier League club in the coming season due to his uninspiring performances but that lies in the hands of the next manager who would successfully be hired as Wenger’s successor.
In 36 Premier League matches, the 22-year-old has only managed to find the back of the net in three occasions while he has assisted only five goals. Should he escape being loaned out by the next Arsenal manager, Iwobi will need to improve his overall performances. He must also learn to convert almost all of the goalscoring chances that come his way during matches.
Meanwhile, the youngster is reportedly in the mood to join his country’s national team ahead of the summer World Cup tournament in Russia. While speaking to FIFA Pop-up Channel, the nimble-footed youngster said he can’t wait for the tournament to start. He also believes that training alongside Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, and Lacazette would help him perform well against top players in Russia.
