Arsene Wenger looks to have concluded his transfer business for this window but Newcastle midfielder is asking to be squeezed in as the Gunners’ final piece of business before Big Ben bangs by midnight on Monday.
The 25-year old midfielder has added to his previous blunt admission of a desire to move to the Emirates to fulfill a lifelong dream but it does not seem Wenger has made any enquiries as yet.
There had been a time when a midfielder was top on the Arsenal list for this winter but the return of competition to the Arsenal midfield will make an incoming player look like a surplus.
Sissoko wants to play in the Champions League and while Arsenal remains his preferred destination, he wouldn’t mind using a PSG link to get the Gunners to up their interest.
“My goal was to come to England because it was the championship that best matched my game and I do not think I am wrong” Sissoko said, per the Mail.
“So I want to stay here and grow at one of the biggest clubs in England. I have a preference for the Premier League and I see myself staying here”
“I am focused on Newcastle. I have a four-and-a-half year contract so in my head I still tell myself I am still here for four years and a half. They appreciate me here and everything is good.”
But Newcastle do not look like a club who will make any progress soon and it would not have inspired the Frenchman much to see the club settle for John Carver as the man to stay in charge for the rest of the season. Sissoko had a flying relationship with Alan Pardew, the man who brought him to England in 2012, but with him now gone to Crystal Palace, Sissoko will not see much to keep him at St James’s for too long.
“I am not saying that I absolutely want to go or not. If it happens, it happens. I am at Newcastle and I will continue to work until one day I have the chance to play at a very big club.”
“Nobody has called me. My agent and I have not spoken to anyone”
“PSG is one of the best clubs in Europe. If I’m lucky they are interested with me. These are difficult things to refuse. I cannot say yes or no but it is an interest I would take into consideration.”
There are no doubts as to which offer he would answer favourably too if Arsenal and PSG both made bids for him as the Gunners are his declared “club of my heart”. But then, Wenger does not see a need for an extra midfielder for now and even if he wanted to, Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin seems to be the main target.
