Finally! Finally!! Finally!!! The transfer of Arsenal right back Mathieu Debuchy seems to have come to an end. The defender was initially thought to be heading to West Brom, he then showed an interest in a move back to France following PSG’s interest before reports claimed he preferred a move Roma. It is however Premier League relegation strugglers Aston Villa that have won the race.
Football Insider via the Express claim that the Gunners have accepted a £1.2million loan fee for the France international from Villa.
The defender himself had confirmed an interest in the move when speaking over the weekend. “They [Aston Villa] are among the teams who want me,” he told French newspaper L’Equipe.
“I am looking at everything but it is not an option I have ruled out. It could be a great challenge – even if they are currently in trouble. “Aston Villa are one of the big English clubs. I also had the coach on the phone and the conversation went well.
“Whatever happens, even if it is to come back here in the summer and leave again, I have to leave this winter. I cannot stay at Arsenal.”
The deal would see Debuchy swap the top of the Premier League for the very bottom in his quest for regular football.
