Arsenal have opened negotiations to sign Borussia Mochengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka to replace Jack Wilshere, according to reports.
The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Emirates for quite sometime and now Jan Aage Fjortoft claims Arsenal have moved to sign the midfielder as Wenger met with the player’s representatives in London last week.
The club is reportedly preparing for a major overhaul of their midfield this summer and have been linked with a host of midfielders.
Xhaka’s name has been a constant feature in the Gunner’s rumour mill and despite the signing of Mohaamed Elneny last summer, Wenger could still add the Switzerland international to his squad.

Xhaka has scored three goals and has five assists in 22 Bundesliga games this season and he has revealed he is interested in completing his dream move to England this summer.
‘I have a childhood dream and that is the Premier League,’ said Xhaka.
‘No matter if I play a second or 100 matches in England, I would one day love to fulfil that childhood dream.’
