Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger should drop Mesut Ozil against AC Milan.
That’s according to former Gunners defender Martin Keown.
The German has been criticised for his performances in recent weeks and has been accused of not putting enough effort in.
Arsenal are in miserable form and are in danger of missing out on Champions League football for the second season running.
Their only hope of redemption is by winning the Europa League, starting at the San Siro tonight as they visit Milan in the last 16.
And Keown has urged Wenger to pick players on merit, not reputation.
“If Arsenal’s poor form continues, Arsene Wenger knows he will not be there next season,” he told the Daily Mail.
“If he was a new manager who had taken over the club at the start of the season, he would have been sacked.
“What has struck me in the last few weeks is that every compartment of the team has been found wanting.
“The problem is that some of their players do not seem designed to do that.
“Wenger will always pick Mesut Ozil but I am not sure he is the right player to get them out of this situation.
“Ozil needs to dig deep and if he is not going to, then he should not be playing.
“I want to see the Arsenal player who is taking this bad run personally and digging out his team-mates who are not working hard enough.
“Arsenal need to give a good, controlled performance but show some desire, too. Wenger needs to give them that desire.”
Arsenal are currently sixth in the Premier League, 13 points behind fierce rivals Tottenham.
