Arsenal have handed a first-ever professional contract for highly-rated English winger Emile Smith Rowe.
The 17-year-old forward has joined the Gunners at the age of 10 and being described as a “pacy winger with a keen eye for goal”.
The talented Englishman had previously turned down offers from Barcelona, and the Gunners arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Smith Rowe said on Twitter: “Happy to have signed my first professional contract for @Arsenal.”
A statement on the club’s website: “We’d like to congratulate Emile on his first professional contract and look forward to his continued progress in the year ahead.”
Last season Smith Rowe has made his debut for Arsenal’s U-21 side at the age of 16, and his fine performances have forced Arsenal to hand him a professional contract.
The 17-year-old Englishman has won 8 caps at Under-17 level for his country.
The Gunners Under-18s side their build up to the new 2017/18 season with a pre-season game against Leyton Orient tomorrow.
Arsene Wenger’s side handed a first professional contract to Smith Rowe’s team-mate Nathan Tormey earlier last week as it has been reported in British Media.
