Arsenal are holding their nerve over contract talks with Jack Wilshere – as clubs are not queuing up to take him.
The Gunners are prepared to give Wilshere £90,000-a-week to stay at the Emirates beyond the end of the season when his current deal ends.
Arsene Wenger has brought the 26-year-old midfielder back into his team after axing him at the start of the campaign.
But the current offer for the England international is unlikely to get increased before a decision needs to be made.
Arsenal believe Wilshere wants to stay at the club over a move to Premier League rivals or foreign clubs, who can open talks now over a Bosman free transfer.
And they also reckon they are still in the running as clubs may not be prepared to smash the £100,000-a-week barrier for a player who has struggled with injuries.
Wilshere could miss out on a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad because of persistent injury problems.
The Arsenal midfielder missed England’s games against Holland and Italy with a sore tendon in his knee.
Wilshere is desperate to play in Russia this summer but is running out of time to prove he can be a fully fit and reliable member of the squad.
He has made 31 appearances for Arsenal this season after forcing his way back into the side.
