Arsenal has been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of German play-maker Ilkay Gundogan.
Borussia Dortmund star – Gundogan, is set to snub a move to Arsenal for Manchester United in the summer.
This report is according to the Express, who claim the midfield pass master will exit the Westfalenstadion in the summer but won’t be heading to the Emirates Stadium. Rather, he would be headed for Old Trafford.
Arsenal and Manchester United has been keen on signing the 24-year-old central midfielder who is only just returning from an 18 months injury spell.
Dortmund are set to cash in on Gundogan rather than losing him on a free transfer when his contract at the club expires in 2016.
Arsenal has been targeting the German as a potential replacement for 33-year-old Mikel Arteta, but German newspaper Der Westen claims that he will instead link up with Louis van Gaal at the end of the season.
Gundogan on his day is arguably the best in his role as a central midfielder. However, it wouldn’t seem that much of big deal if Arsenal lose out on his signature as we currently have a fleet of midfield stars, who can also on their day match up to Gundogan’s creativity in the middle of the park. A good example has been – Santi Cazorla.
