Arsenal don’t need to sign Karim Benzema, according to Sky Sports pundit Tony Cottee.
Reports linking us with Benzema has been rife in the last 24 hours since Diario Gol claimed the striker has been offered to us.
It is claimed that Real Madrid President Fiorentino Perez has become frustrated with the French man’s performances and is ready to sell him.
Perez has reportedly informed Arsenal of his intentions to sell the striker with the hope that we would renew our long standing interest in the 29 year old.
But Cottee says we don’t need the striker.
Cottee said, as quoted by the Daily Star: “They’ve been linked with Benzema and many other players.
“They’ve got Olivier Giroud, they’ve got Alexis Sanchez up front. Theo Walcott can play up there. There are many other options as well. They are covered in that position.”
Cottee does have a point, we have more than enough options upfront and signing Benzema would be an unnecessary buy.
The former Lyon man may not even strengthen our squad as much considering he is no longer as prolific as he used to be when we were desperate to sign him.
Benzema has been one of Madrid’s best players since he joined them in 2009 but has begun to struggle in recent years which I think is the reason his future at the Spanish club is in doubt but I don’t see him moving to Arsenal, his boat has sailed away long ago.
