Reports are claiming Arsenal have opened talks to sign AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca.
Arsenal have been linked with more than a dozen number of strikers in the last three months and this is a bit surprising considering it was just last summer we signed Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna.
Despite the arrival of Perez, Wenger is reportedly interested in signing a striker in the winter transfer window and Bacca appears to be the man on Wenger’s wish list.
Bacca is not in good terms with his boss Vincenzo Montella and reports are suggesting Milan are willing to sell the Colombian.
According to the Sun via The Express, Arsenal have opened talks with Milan over the possibility of signing Bacca in the winter transfer window.
Shocking, isn’t it?
The report claims Wenger is determined to sign a striker in January in order to keep the squad strong enough to challenge for the Premier League title in the crucial period of the season.
They cite injuries to Olivier Giroud, Lucas Perez and Danny Welbeck as the reason Wenger wants a new centre forward but they failed to remember that all these players could return from injury on or before January.
Wenger tried to sign Bacca when he was at Sevilla but lost out to Milan and i’d like to think his boat sailed away when he chose Italy.
Bacca is almost 30, of what importance is he going to be to us now and in the future?
Based on current form, he wouldn’t get ahead of Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud in Wenger’s pecking order. Also he is not in any way younger to be regarded as a signing for the future, so what’s the essence of signing him?
Moreover, I do not think Wenger will actively pursue a striker in January and even if he does, it would be a young, talented striker who will be regarded as one for the future and not Bacca.
