Inter Milan are prepared to rival Arsenal for the services of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, according to reports.
Simeone has established himself as one of Europe’s best managers since he took over at Atletico and he is now one of the most sought after coaches in Europe.
Reports claim, he is on Arsenal’s radar to replace Arsene Wenger if the Frenchman decides to end his stay at the Emirates.
According to the Daily Express, Arsenal are currently the bookies favorites to snap up the Atletico Madrid boss but Inter Milan are prepared us to fight for his signature.
The newspaper cites Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport as its source and it claims Inter have set aside huge funds to tempt Simeone to the San Siro.
Wenger’s contract at Arsenal expires at the end of the season and there is still a question mark over his future, as some reports claim he might step down if he fails to win a major title this season, which could force Arsenal to turn to Simeone.
But Corriere suggests Inter will provide strong competition for the Argentine’s signature and the Italian club’s Chinese owners are already preparing funds to pay a hefty up-front fee and meet his current £4.3m (€5m) yearly wages.
Although Simeone is a very good manager, I think Arsenal will not be an ideal destination for the Argentine because his style of play is way different from our philosophy.
I also think it will be a waste of effort trying to compete with Inter for his signature as the Argentine tactician has never hidden his desire to one day manage Inter whom he played for during his days as a footballer.
His Emotions will definitely persuade him to choose the Italian club if he is made to choose between the two clubs, so we’d be better off looking elsewhere.
