Manchester City have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeeper Jan Oblak, according to Goal.

Arsene Wenger have reportedly earmarked the young goalkeeper as a successor to Petr Cech.

Cech international is close to the end of his career and at 34, Wenger is aware that he may not have much left in him.

In a bid not to be caught off guard, report claims the French tactician is keeping an eye on Oblak who he admires a lot.

However, Wenger now face a fight to sign the goalkeeper as Man City have made the Slovenian it’s priority summer target.

Goal claims Chelsea and Manchester United have also made enquiries about the defender’s availability but it is Man City who has shown the strongest interest.

Oblak has established himself as one of Europe’s best goalkeepers since he replaced Courtois in 2014 and Atletico are not willing to sell him.

They have inserted a €100m release clause in the player’s contract which must be activated by any club who wants to sign him.

Arsenal would be unwilling to pay that much for Oblak and also the amount of clubs interested in the goalkeeper will end any hope of agreeing a reduced fee with Atletico.

Arsenal have also been linked with Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford who is showing he also has the potential to become a top goalie and at this point, Pickford represents a more realistic option for us. I would suggest we focus our attention on the Sunderland man and forget about Oblak.
