Tottenham and Arsenal could battle each other for the services of Manchester United’s Chris Smalling this summer, according to reports.
The arrival of Victor Lindelof has thrown Smalling’s future into doubt and he is now being linked with a move to Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger is believed to be an admirer of the Manchester United man and has been following his progress since his days at Fulham. Hence the reason he is being linked with a move to sign the defender.
According to The Sun via The Daily Star, Tottenham are also interested in signing the England international.
Tottenham’s interest in Smalling mean we will face serious competition from our neighbors if Wenger decides to step up his interest in the defender.
Wenger is reportedly keen on strengthening key areas of Arsenal’s squad this summer and the centre back position is one he is keeping an eye on.
One big question we will have to answer is if the £120,000-a-week star’ signature is worth fighting for?
Again, will the England international improve our squad in any way?
Judging by his displays for Manchester United last season, I doubt if Smalling is the signing Arsenal needs but you never can tell, Wenger may just be able to get the best out of him.
