Arsenal keen on landing the Aston Villa star.
Arsenal have joined Everton in tracking England’s latest midfielder ‘solution’.
The Aston Villa man; Fabian Delph has had a series of impressive outings with Paul Lamberts’ team, from last season to the equally commendable results from the early games of this season. He has been a key figure in the Villa midfield, deployed in the box-to-box role, and has also been used by Roy Hodgson in a similar role.
Delph’s energy and vivacity has seen him appreciated by many as it is believed his call-up to Hodgson’s team was well and truly deserved. Arsene Wenger and Roberto Martinez have now stepped up their monitoring of the midfielder’s situation at Villa, especially as negotiations for the renewal of his contract has somewhat stalled. With both teams featuring in Europe and gunning for the top four spots, it may well turn out to be a fierce battle for the emerging midfielder as both managers may feel a current need to bolster their options in midfield.
Wenger may have a reason to ponder a particularly serious bid in January with the current spate of injuries which has hit the squad recently like an Epidemic. Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta are the latest on the injury list, adding to the likes of Olivier Giroud and Mattiue Debuchy. Abou Diaby has been identified by Wenger as one of those who will provide some solidity in the team, but he is still far from fitness after so many months out from competitive football. With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain considered a wide man, Wlishere and Rosicky are the other options on the central midfield department – and they are obviously not enough.
Delph was visibly impressive in our victory over Aston Villa, with the first shot in that game after good combination play. A left-footed player, he is able to take chances with his right foot with a good measure of accuracy. His England debut against Norway at Wembley saw him in his combative cloak, hacking and hassling, albeit recklessly. Nevertheless, it showed an essential ingredient of his game on the defensive front. He is able to put in a shift for the team to cover the defence while, at the same time, making bursting runs into the opponents’ area.
Aston Villa are desperate to tie the 26 year old to a new contract which is sure to include some hefty buy out fee. However, with his current deal to run out in the summer, they may be under pressure to cash-in on him during the winter window rather than let him go on a free. Everton have shown they are capable to pay some fee for the player they need, after splashing over £28million for Lukaku.
A bidding war could ensue between the two clubs, but it should be expected that Arsenal should appeal more to him, considering he must now have ambitions to further his England career with a possible Champions League football being top priority on his mind; a feat which Arsenal can very much Guarantee him at the moment.
