Jack Wilshere has given Gooners a huge boost as regards his long-term future by claiming his priority is to sign a new contract at Arsenal.

The midfielder joined AFC Bournemouth on loan last season and has become a key player for the Cherries since joining them. His fine form hasn’t gone unnoticed and Wenger recently revealed that the club has plans to offer the player a new contract in the new year.

But the England international almost sent Gooners into panic mode when he publicly revealed that he is unsure of a return to the Emirates.

He also claimed he wouldn’t stay at the Emirates next year unless he is given assurances about a place in the starting xi and considering the level of competition for midfield places in our squad, we all knew that was almost impossible.

Then it looked like we would be forced to sell him if he refuses to sign a new deal because he would have just one year left when his Bournemouth’s spell ends but the midfielder has now given Arsenal a huge boost by claiming his aim is to do well at Bournemouth in order to earn a new deal at the Emirates.

‘At the moment, my head is in Bournemouth,’ Wilshere told Sky Sports.

‘I know as much as everyone else knows.

‘I read what the boss at Arsenal said and at the moment I’m focused on performing for Bournemouth and putting myself in a position where Arsenal want to offer me a new contract and I’m in a strong position at the end of the season.

‘At the moment, I’m taking each game as it comes, working hard and I’m looking forward to the next six or seven months here at Bournemouth.

‘We’ll see what happens after that.’

I doubt if there will be any Gooner who will not be excited by the midfielder’s recent claims.

Wilshere is regarded as “Mr Arsenal” considering he passed through our prestigious academy having joined us at the age of nine.  A new deal means he will be staying here for many more years to come which I think it’s the best thing as he represents everything about Arsenal.
