Arsenal have handed a boost in their effort to land Ben Wilmot from Stevenage, according to stories in the British media.

The Sun, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is suggesting that Arsenal are keen on landing the 18-year-old defender this summer as Arsene Wenger wants to reinforce his rearguard options at The Emirates.

The same story says that Arsenal could be set to face competition from arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur for his services and that Watford are also an interested side.

According to the same story, Stevenage want £2m for their prized asset, and that Watford have already had a £500,000 bid rejected by the defender.

The Gunners are forced to be linked with a host of footballers in the coming weeks and months as the summer transfer window gives Wenger the chance to bolster his squad significantly.

The player has made 10 League Two appearances for Stevenage so far this campaign.
