Arsenal line up free transfer for Benfica defender Maxi Pereira
Arsenal are getting set to capture another Benfica star with negotiations said to be ongoing.
Reports making the round according to Metro, are suggesting that Arsenal have reportedly opened talks over the free transfer of Benfica right-back Maxi Pereira.
This would be the second Benfica player in just a few weeks that Arsenal has been linked to. After earlier reports have claimed the Gunners had approached the club over the sale of sensational youngster Goncalo Guedes dubbed the new Cristiano Ronaldo.
Pereira, a vital part of Benfica’s team, has been at the Portuguese champions since 2007.
But with his contract ending in June, Arsene Wenger is ready to snap him up following recent reports of his first choice right-back Mathieu Debuchy being courted by French money-bags Paris Saint-Germain.
30-year-old Pereira would be a direct replacement to Debuchy who turns 30 in July.
The Uruguayan has 100 international caps to his name and would add to Arsenal’s defensive options, Even though there is already a healthy competition for that position between Hector Bellerin, Calum Chambers, Debuchy and the soon to return from loan Carl Jenkinson.
