Arsenal are weighing up a move for Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye, according to The Sun via gunnersphere.com.
The report claims Arsenal scouts have been watching the midfielder for quite sometime and have been impressed by the 27 year old.
Wenger has been happy with the feedbacks he’s been getting so far about the Senegalese international and he is planning a summer move to ubring him to the Emirates.
Reports claim the midfield is one position Wenger will try to strengthen this summer and Gueye has now emerged as a top target.
The Everton man is being compared to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante- who is regarded by many as the best midfielder currently in England.
Arsenal missed out on Kante to Chelsea last summer and Wenger doesn’t want to miss out on Gueye who is a similar player like the French midfielder
Last season, when Gueye was at Aston Villa, he was just behind Kante in number of tackles and interceptions won and he has notched same impressive stats this season again for Everton.
The Toffees are aware of interest in their midfielder and could move to tie him down to a new contract as soon as possible.
For me, Arsenal’s interest in Gueye is a welcome development, considering our obvious weakness this season has been absence of physicality in midfield.
A midfield pairing of Gueye and Xhaka will provide us the much needed solidity to launch a title challenge next season and plug the leaky holes in our defense.
Gueye is expected to command an hefty fee because his club would be reluctant to sell but I think it’s worth taking a gamble on especially after we missed out on Kante last year.
