Arsenal are closing in on the services of Eibar defender Florian Lejeune, according to reports.
The defense is one position Wenger is reportedly keen on strengthening this summer. Just as improving the first team is important, the manager believes finding a better back up option for Koscielny and Mustafi is also important.
We’ve been linked with a lot of centre backs in recent weeks but the Mirror via arsenalstation.com claims Leujeune is our man.
The report claims we are expected to wrap up the signing of the French man when the summer transfer window opens in July.
Lejeune has been impressive for Eibar since joining them from Manchester City last summer and Wenger now wants to bring him back to the Premier League.
While at City, the defender had loan spells at Agde, Istres, Villarreal, Brest and Girona but since leaving the Etihad permanently, he has become settled and is now showing his true quality.
At 25, the defender still has lots of room for improvement and he appears to have done enough to this term to catch Wenger’s attention.
The report claims Arsenal are ready to trigger his £8.7m release clause when the transfer window opens.
Arsenal will do well with a new centre back this summer as Gabriel Paulista and Per Mertesacker have shown they are miles away from our first choice pairing in terms of quality.
Our defense doesn’t look the same if one of Mustafi or Koscielny is missing and that I believe we must fix in the summer.
I’m not so sure if Leujeune will improve the quality of our squad depth because I haven’t watched him play but for Wenger to be keen on him, it does mean there is something special about the lad.
