Benfica’s £40 million rated forward, Goncalo Guedes has been dubbed the next Cristiano Ronaldo.
It is about that time when every player either good or bad looks to be linked with a move to Arsenal.
We have been linked with every player that has shown a glimpse of skills and potential in just a season but these are all media talks like Arsene would say.
According to the Daily Star, Arsenal have been told to fork out a massive £40 million to land Benfica’s teenage starlet Goncalo Guedes, who has been dubbed the next Cristiano Ronaldo.
With the payment of the stadium off the backs of the board, Arsenal have seen likes of players such as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez who have cost more than what Arsene Wenger would pay for any one player arrive at the club. So It is no shock to be linked with a player like Goncalo Guedes who commands such transfer fee.
But knowing the kind of club Arsenal is or the type of manager we have, this claim by the Daily Star I would say is bogus.
Wenger would not willingly spend such an outrageous amount of money on a player that no one knows about or who is yet to prove himself at top level not even if he has a gun to his head, he still wouldn’t; that is not the Wenger we know, is it?
Another important factor to consider also is the large number of forward/attacking players currently available to Wenger, so much that he has had to loan out four since the start of the year.
Arsenal doesn’t need another forward let alone an unproven teenager who considering his price tag will be looking to jump straight into the Arsenal line-up. The headache of disrupting the fine cohesion of the current team with squad rotation to keep everyone happy has been in the air in recent weeks.
And in my own opinion, I don’t think Guedes, though dubbed the next Ronaldo, is any better than Sanchez or the Ox who are also young players and still have a lot of years to give to the team.
Arsenal does have the money to spend on players now but that doesn’t mean they will lose their senses.
