Arsenal are set to finally sign long time target Gonzalo Higuain in the summer.
This report is according to Calciomercato per the Metro, who claim that Arsenal have moved ahead in the race for Higuain’s signature.
The Argentine forward has been subject to a move away from Naples in recent weeks, after failing to settle in the club.
This has placed a host of Europe’s elite clubs on red alert for the former Real Madrid man, with Arsenal and Juventus in the fore front of the race for his signature.
Current Serie A title holders Juventus, have held talks with Higuain’s brother over a possible switch in the summer. But the reports say Arsenal are likely to beat the Italian giants to his signature.
The 27-year-old striker currently earns £57,000-a-week and would cost around £28.9 million to land him.
This deal, if reports are anything to go by, can come to fruition as the Gunners have significant funds to spend in the summer and Higuain being a long time target of the club would represent good business.
Should Napoli fail to make the top 3 spot on the Serie A log at the end of the term, Higuain will have enough reasons to want to leave at the end of the season, as the club is currently struggling to make the Champions League next season.
