Arsenal Legend Martin Keown believes Olivier Giroud should be worried about his position in Arsenal’s starting xi.
The striker is yet to start a league game for Arsenal this season, he was also left out of the starting line up in Tuesday’s Champions League game against Paris Saint Germain and Keown believes he should be worried about that.
The striker was also left out of the starting xi in Saturday’s game against Hull City with Wenger prefering to start with Alexis Sanchez up front.
And when Keown was asked what he thinks of Wenger leaving Giroud of the starting xi against PSG, he said the striker should be a bit worried.
“If I was Olivier Giroud, I’d be a little concerned not to have started against Paris Saint-Germain.
“Going with Alexis Sanchez shows that Wenger wants pace in that central position. Giroud was sent off against PSG and he might have gone on a little too fired up wanting to prove why he should start.”
Giroud arrived late from the summer holiday and wasn’t match fit in the opening weeks of the season and that was part of the reason he was left out of the starting xi in the opening games of the campaign.
However, his situation has been worsened by the arrival of Lucas Perez and Wenger’s decision to play Alexis Sanchez as a centre forward this season. The French striker will now have more work to do as he has to fight with the duo for a spot in the starting xi.
Wenger has started with Sanchez upfront in five of the club’s six games this season and that should really give Giroud reason to be concerned as it means the French tactician wants pace up front which isn’t a forte of the French striker.
