Nacho Monreal has spoken about the futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in an interview with Goal.

The defender has revealed that the star duo have not yet signed a new contract with Arsenal because they are waiting for Wenger to resolve his.

Ozil and Sanchez have been heavily linked with summer moves away from the Emirates as their contracts expires at the end of next season.

There have been several reports about both players being fed up with life at the Emirates but Monreal believes that isn’t the case.

The left back says the duo have only tied their futures to that of Wenger’s which expires at the end of the season.

With less than 3 months left in Wenger’s contract, he is yet to reveal whether he will extend his contract or not and Monreal says the players are waiting for the boss to make a decision on his future first.

“For Arsenal as a team and as a club, ideally everyone should continue,” he said, as quoted by The Daily Star.

“But today these are the circumstances.

“The coach finishes his contract and has not yet communicated whether he continues or not, then there are two important players like Alexis and Mesut who finish their contracts next season and they are waiting for the coach to follow.

“It is a situation of uncertainty, and that does not help.

“But it is not in our hands either.”

Ozil had previously hinted that his future will depend on Wenger’s and Monreal’s statement has clarified what’s really going on behind the scene as regards his and Sanchez’s contract extension.

This is a bit worrisome for me because players tying their future to that of the manager could be bad for the club.

What happens if Wenger doesn’t continue? We’ll lose our best players, isn’t it? I just believe it ought not to be so.
