Lorenzo Insigne is close to signing a new contract at Napoli after being linked with a move to Arsenal, according to The Daily Cannon.
Insigne has been stalling on signing a new deal at Napoli and it was claimed that Arsenal wanted to take advantage of the situation.
Our hopes of doing so has now been shattered as the player recently found a breakthrough in negotiations with his club and is set to sign an extension.
Insigne’s current deal expires in 2019 and his club thought it wise to tie him down to a longer contract but for sometime it seemed both parties were finding it difficult to reach a compromise.
Now that a breakthrough has been made, the striker is now set to sign a new deal that will keep him at Napoli until 2022, which will also see his current salary rise to about £55,000 a week, excluding add-ons and bonuses.
This would come as bad news to some Gooners who wanted to see the Italian move to the Emirates but I am not shocked by this recent development because I have always doubted those Insigne to Arsenal reports. At the time, it looked like it was his agent’s plan to get a better deal for the striker and that has appeared to be the case.
Football agents these days use other club’s interest as a bargaining tool to get the best possible deal for their clients and when the Insigne news broke out of nowhere, I wasn’t so sure of what to make of it but now it’s become clearer.
However, it’s a good thing that he’s agreed to stay where he is, we can now focus on our club’s true targets.
