Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has warned Arsene Wenger to “break the bank” to keep Sanchez and Ozil at the Emirates or face the wrath of fans.
Both players’ contracts expires at the end of next season and have been linked with moves away from the club.
In a bid to secure their long term future, Arsenal opened talks with both players to extend their contracts but are struggling to reach an agreement with them.
Seaman has now urged Wenger to do everything he can to keep the players here. Our former goalie is of the opinion that the duo will be crucial to our chances of winning silverwares.
He also discussed the future of Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain and warned that the winger must not be allowed to leave the Emirates, following reports that Man City are interested in signing him.
“They need to break the bank to keep both of them, well all three of them,” Seaman told talkSport, as quoted by Goal. “What sort of signal is that going to send to fans and other teams? Is it ‘oh yeah we are not interested in winning the league but financially we are fantastic’?
“The fans are not interested in the financial side, they want to see the best players playing for Arsenal.
“Whatever it takes, Arsenal should do to keep especially Ozil, Sanchez and the Ox as well – these are quality players.
“We used to be a team that would sell our best players. I thought we had gone past that and now the test is what sort of team are we now.
“Are we a team that lets its best players go or can we still afford to keep them?”
Seaman who won three league titles here knows the importance of having quality players like Ozil and Sanchez in a squad, so it isn’t surprising that he is urging Wenger to break the bank to tie them down to new contracts.
As for me, I do not think the players are being greedy because they actually deserve what they are demanding, so we have to find a way to keep them here.
We are suffering from our own strict financial policy and if we have to keep our best players, we will have to drop that policy.
Arsenal work with a restricted wage budget and that has limited what we can offer our star players, we can’t keep doing that in today’s footballing era. We need to move with the trend or risk falling behind our rivals.
