AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas could request the inclusion of a release clause in his new contract that would enable Arsenal sign him next summer, according to Forza Roma via Sport Witness.

The defender has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates and in the just concluded transfer window Roma were unwilling to sell the Greek international.

The Giallorossi refused to enter talks with Arsenal and it is claimed the Italian giants didn’t want to sell the defender because his former club Olympiakos were entitled to 50% of the transfer fee had he been sold this summer.

Roma now want to offer Manolas a new contract and have already contacted his agent Yannis Evangeloupolos.

The Italian giants are prepared to triple the defender’s wages to about €4.5m per season but the player could ask for a release clause to be included in the new contract.

The report also claims Arsenal submitted a bid of €39m in the summer but it wasn’t enough to tempt Roma into selling the defender.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal are going to return for the player next summer as Wenger is a big fan of the defender. The French man was close to signing the defender in 2014 when he was still at Olympiakos before he later moved to Italy that same summer.
