Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on bolstering his side in the January transfer window for the second half of the 2015/2016 season.
Borussia Monchengladbach’s midfield sensation Granit Xhaka has added to the speculation linking him with a move to the Emirates by indicating the shirt number he would love to wear should he seal a move to North London, via the Metro. The Swiss star is reported to be one of the top targets for the Gunners . Wenger is already assessing potential replacements for his midfield which is set to rocked by several departures in the summer.
In an interview with German outlet Tor Fabrik, the Borussia Monchengladbach captain revealed his desire to one day play in the Premier League and admitted that he’d love to pick Coquelin’s no.34 shirt at Arsenal should he make the move. “That was my first professional number at Basel,” Xhaka told German publication Tor Fabrik, when asked about the significance of his shirt number. “It’s even tattooed on my back. I would also like to wear it in the future.”
He added: “It was also here in Gladbach, with Amin Younes [who had the number before Xhaka]. And at Arsenal Coquelin has it. I’ve spoken with him, he would like to take another number!”
The seriousness in his words are as good as anyone’s guess, what’s a known fact is that Wenger will have to meet the club’s valuation in order to lure him from the Bundesliga as his current deal runs till 2019.
