Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Monaco full back Benjamin Mendy, according to reports.
The left back position is one area Arsenal are looking to strengthen this summer as both Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs have failed to impress this term.
Club chiefs who have watched the team fall short of the Premier League title race again are now considering a number of options to strengthen that position.
According to The Metro, Mendy, along with Celtic’s kieran Tierney and Valencia’s Jose Gaya are firmly on Arsenal’s radar.
Mendy is believed to be the club’s top target following his impressive performances for Monaco this season but we could face stiff competition from Manchester United who are also interested in the defender.
The Monaco man has shown he has the potential to become one of football’s best left back in the world and Gooners will be itching for Arsenal to secure his services.
In the past, we were blessed with top players at left back but in recent years, we’ve had to make do with Monreal and Gibbs who are good defenders on their day but not world class.
Mendy is a defender who has struck a balance in his attacking as well as defensive qualities and could become a world class defender for us. But first, we’ll have to fight off competition from Old Trafford.
