Arsenal are set to find a replacement for their first choice goalkeeper Petr Cech in the summer. The Czech international has endured a season to forget due to some costly errors which are somehow responsible for the Gunners’ misfortune this season.
In his bid to find a long-term replacement, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly made a £25million offer for Bayer Leverkusen’s netminder Bernd Leno.
The move is also backed up by Arsenal’s director of football Svenska Mislintat who believes the goalkeeper will do well under Wenger’s watch should he switch to the North London club this summer.
Mislintat has had a huge impact on the Gunners’ transfer policy despite joining the team in January. He was involved in Mktarryan and Aubameyang’s move to Arsenal in January, using his relationship with both players to the Gunners’ advantage.
According to the Sun, the club’s sporting director is ready to help Arsene Wenger in his move for the 26-year-old whom he tagged ‘Perfect Cech replacement’.
Though Leno still has a contract with Leverkusen which runs until 2020, reports from the Bundesliga suggest that the goalie could decide to terminate his contract with the club to switch to the Emirates Stadium during the next transfer window.
The Germany international has been rock-solid for Leverkusen this season and he is currently in an intense battle with Liverpool’s goalkeeper Loris Karius for a place in Joachim Low’s World Cup squad.
Bernd Leno is also being tracked by Liverpool and Napoli. A great showing at the World Cup will surely see his value rise up in the summer.
