Arsenal look set to miss out on Nigeria whizkid Samuel Chukwueze despite going close to signing the winger at some point last season.

The Nigeria youngster is set to complete a move to FC Porto but he could have been on the plane to North London were it not for a disagreement in the transfer fee.

Some time last season, the winger was in London to complete a move to Arsenal but there was a disagreement in negotiation, which forced us to withdraw from the deal and since then we’ve heard nothing about the player moving to the Emirates.

And Nigeria publication Owngoalnigeria has now revealed why we pulled out of the deal to sign the youngster. A source told the newspaper that we decided against signing the winger due to the poor conduct of his academy.

According to the report, Chukwueze’s academy Diamond Academy had already agreed a £1.5m plus an extra £1m add-ons with Arsenal for the winger.

Both parties also agreed we would pay 10% of the fee upfront but the academy changed their mind and demanded 40% later, which angered Wenger.

“We got a mail sometimes in April from Arsenal stating clearly their unwillingness to proceed with the deal due to reasons that we know had to do with poor conduct of those around the lad” a source told Owngoalnigeria.com

” He will be heading to Porto but for a fee lesser than what Arsenal were willing to pay as transfer fee and even in wages to the player, as a matter of fact Red Bull Salzburg brought a better deal than Porto but at the end for the sake of his career growth, he chose FC Porto”.

The player is now set for a move to Porto while his national teammate Kelechi Nwakali has since completed a move to Emirates.

This just shows how much influence those people surrounding most youngsters have on their future but what’s disappointing is that most of these academies and agents put money ahead of their player’ welfare.

No doubt, Chukwueze would have been exposed to a world class atmosphere and top level tutoring at Arsenal but will now miss all that because of the greediness of his academy.
