You know “that honey” that all the bees prefer to buzz around? That has pretty much been the case of Arsenal and transfer rumours this summer.
The August window had slammed shut about 3 weeks ago and after we were able to smuggle in one or two right at the death, the gaping holes in the team caused by latter incidents have continued to see us linked with the acquisition of new players. From those in the free agents markets, to young and upcoming stars, to those whom we initially thought had got away.
So just how close (or far) are we from accomplishing any of these deals anyway? We round-up a few names.
Well first, we might just begin with the BAD NEWS as the latest gossips have it that both Arsenal and Liverpool have failed in their attempts to tempt Isco away from the Bernabeu this January as Carlo Ancelotti may have plans for the Spanish playmaker for the season after all. Isco came on as a substitute in Madrid’s 8-2 excavation of Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga this weekend, contributing an assist to one of Gareth Bales’ brace in the game. The 22 year old former Malaga man who had been believed would want a move away from the capital club may now have to stay at the Bernabeu to be employed in some capacity by the Italian boss who said “He is the future of this squad”.
Guess that just about settles that then.
- Sami Khedira
Where the candle may have gone off on getting Isco, the flame still burns brightly as far as Khedira is concerned, as the German Champion is really yet to get a foot-hold into the team with Kroos, Modric and Illara all ahead of him in the pecking order. The Ancelotti quote above mentioned Illaramendi in the same breath as Isco as the future of the team and with Modric central to the dynamism of Madrid’s play and Kroos newly recruited, you kind of see the exit of Khedira as certain as death and taxes. In fact, the same source of the above quotes, quotes another source which say that we have AGREED an #11million deal to sign Khedira… Astonishing!
- Marco Reus
We know he has turned down the opportunity to extend his stay at Dortmund. We know he is somewhat as Arsenal fan. We know how good he is and we know how well we would love to have him in our team. The one other thing we know is that some Spanish papers seem to be conceding defeat already to us in the race to capture his signature. We do not know if it will be in January or later next summer. We also know he is still injured.
- Chris Smalling
The catastrophe which is Manchester United may just have a reason to refuse us Smalling now as it has become apparent they could do with one or two proper defenders. We are believed to be strongly interested in taking Smalling in January, as we were in an exchange deal in the summer. However, with Smalling having to replace Jonny Evans who came off at some point with an injury, and with Tyler Blackett suspended, it may appear Smalling will have a stint in United for a while. Still, the ‘tactical genius’ may still feel he hasn’t had the same record as Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo over the season and decide to do a Welbeck. *grabbing him with both hands! “Thank you” *
