Arsenal vs Anderlecht: Player Ratings, MOTM, FOTM.

How disappointing is it that you squander a three-goal lead right in front of your fans? The team was going to get a 10 following Chamberlain’s goal, if they had followed it up to kill the game off. Bad enough that Monsieur Turpin didn’t rule out the Anderlecht first goal (so he gets a three) but how’s that a go ahead to courier the remaining two-goal advantage to the dump?

Szczesny: 6
A better game from Szczesny today in comparison to last time out. Kept us from going behind very early on with a bold save.

Chambers: 6
Good forays in helping the attack when the going was good; lack of support from the forward on his side of the wing saw him undone by the combined pace of Acheampong and Kawaya.

Mertesacker: 6
For the second time in as many games, our VC has let us down by poor reaction to a cross. Landing on his face on the surface doesn’t cover the shame of it.

Monreal: 5 FOTM
Really poor penalty to give away, even Cazorla couldn’t support him. Absolutely unnecessary challenge and after Van den Borre converted, the equalizer was always inevitable.

Gibbs: 6
Over run by Najar again today and couldn’t close him down from pulling in the cross for Mitrovic’s equalizer. We had warned that no doors should be left ajar, clearly it wasn’t heeded.

Arteta: 7
Very good game from Arteta and the coolest of finishes to give us the lead. Maybe his substitution unsettled us a little.

Ramsey: 6
His energy was visibly an addition to the midfield but his touches were quite clumsy. Perhaps he was still bothered about scoring than doing some more dirty work.

Oxlade-Chamberlain*: 7
Another explosive performance from the Ox. His finish for the third goal was as emphatic as his all round play. The real positive from the game: we have another player who can work as hard – even harder – than Alexis.

Cazorla: 6
A slight improvement from his past games, probably because he didn’t have as many opportunities in front of goal. But with the Ox on the left, and Alexis central, he wasn’t efficient in helping Chambers on the right.

Alexis: 7 MOTM
An excellent shift from Alexis as always, being involved in all three goals. That’s three games in a row he’s scored in now.

Welbeck: 6
Overcame his Mbemba nemesis today by winning the penalty, nothing else done after that.

Subs

Flamini: 5… Didn’t do anything to prevent the wave of Anderlecht attacks.

Podolksi: 5… Had that shot connected, it would have been… but it wasn’t.

Rosciky: 5… Not enough done.
