Arsene Wenger has missed his chance to leave the Emirates with honour and will be sacked by Arsenal, says Joey Barton. Wenger is under renewed stress after the North Londoners lost 2-1 to Watford at the weekend.

It leaves them sixth in the Standings, nine points behind league leaders Man City. With just eight matches of the campaign gone, the Premier League trophy is already looking out of sight.

Barton, who once held negotiations with Wenger about a move to Arsenal, claims the Frenchman should have left at the end of last season.

Instead, he signed a fresh, two-year deal with the club.

“These are worrying times if you’re an Arsenal fan, but if you’re him [Wenger] you think the next good team is just around the corner and he’s building it,” – the ex-Man City and Newcastle footballer told TalkSport.

“Whatever any of us thinks he’s been a phenomenal manger in the Premier League. I think last year would have been a great time to step upstairs and let someone else come in. Does he need this? Every time they have a negative result he’s getting battered from pillar to post.”

Barton associated Wenger to a drunk person who had remained too long at a party and suggested the Frenchman will have to be ‘ejected’ from Arsenal.
