Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Southampton Star Morgan Schneiderlin.
In an interview with SkySports, Southampton’s head of football development Les Reed, said that the club will not be selling any of their players in the summer. Instead, they will look towards keeping the squad together and adding to it.
“It wouldn’t be our intention to sell any of our players this summer.” Reed told SSNHQ.
“We’re in the process of renegotiating contracts with some but our main purpose at the moment is keeping this squad together and adding to it.”
Arsenal’s interest in signing Saints midfield powerhouse Schneiderlin has been well documented.
This report will surely come as a big blow to the Gunners, who have failed to land the signature of the Frenchman in the last two transfer windows and were reportedly set to try again at the end of the season.
The 25-year-old was a hot target for Arsenal as well as several other clubs in the Premier League last summer; during the club’s massive sale of players.
Although Arsenal benefitted from the exodus with the capture of Callum Chambers, Arsene Wenger remains keen on signing Schneiderlin.
The rise to prominence of Francis Coquelin at Arsenal in recent months has seen the agitation from fans for the need of a defensive midfielder reduce.
However, a section of the fans still see the need for Schneiderlin in the summer as vital, as the club prepares for a major assault on the League title next term.
