The appointment of Ernest Velverde to the helms of Barcelona has seen the Catalan club exceeded expectation so far  this season but some of his players appear to have no place in his grand plan for the club.

With the January transfer window beaconing, Arsenal have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan, this is according to report.

Turan joined Barcelona in the summer of 2015 in a £34million deal from Atletico Madrid. Since then, the ace midfielder has struggled to impose himself in the team. During the reign of Luis Enrique, Turan was largely used as a substitute and his situation is no better under Velverde.

The 30-year old has seen his stocked dropped since he moved to Barcelona. Since his arrival at Camp Nou, Turan has only started in 23 games and he was said to be substituted in as much as half of those. This term, the Turkish midfield has managed an appearance on the bench.

Barcelona have deemed him surplus to their requirement and in a bid to cut down their wage bill, and prepare for the arrival of Philippe Coutinho, they have put up Turan for sale, reports the Sun. This report could be seen a bad news for the fans of Liverpool who want Coutinho to continue playing for them.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Turan since last summer and if Arsene Wenger is really serious about signing the attacking midfielder, the winter transfer window will present the best opportunity.

Although Turan may have gotten to the twilight of his career, he could provide an option for Wenger.
