Bayern Munich have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Nice midfielder Jean-Michel Seri, according to reports.
The Ivorian midfielder was in fine form throughout the just concluded campaign, helping his team finish third position on the French league table, in turn booking a place in next season’s Champions League.
Seri’s top performances have led to interest from a host of European top clubs, including Arsenal.
However, there is a new suitor in the race to sign the midfielder.
According to Le Parisien, Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign Seri. The Bundesliga champions are keen on strengthening it’s midfield this summer, after Xabi Alonso’s retirement and Ancelotti sees Seri as a perfect successor to the Spaniard.
Last week, reports linking the midfielder to the Emirates was strong after Arsene Wenger and club chief executive Ivan Gazidis were spotted in Nice.
It is believed Arsenal have opened talks with OGC Nice to sign the defender but Bayern’s interest will now threaten to throw the spanner in our works.
The defender has a €40m release clause in his contract and Nice president Jean Pierre Rivere has warned that the clause must be activated by any suitor.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be willing to pay the clause but with Wenger set to splash the cash this summer, paying that much for a midfielder who has been outstanding in the last one year shouldn’t be a problem.
