The odds on Diego Simeone to become the next Arsenal manager have been slashed following the Argentine’s decision to reduce the length of his current contract at Atletico Madrid.

The Argentine has agreed terms with his current  employers to reduce his contract which was suppose to expire in 2020 to 2018.

Simeone is being touted as a potential replacement to Wenger and the decision to cut short the length of his contract has increased rumors linking him with a move to the Emirates.

According to Bookmarkers Ladbrokes via Football Insider, Simeone’s odds of joining Arsenal has been slashed from 16/1 to 7/1.

Some Arsenal fans have been calling for Wenger to be sacked following his failure to lead the club to the league title in the past 12 seasons and Simeone is thought to be popular among the fans as a potential Wenger replacement.

On slashing the odds on Simeone going to Arsenal, a Ladbrokes spokeperson told HITC Sport: “Simeone is set to become hot property and the latest odds suggest it won’t be long before Arsenal make a move for one of the most in-demand managers on the continent.”

However, Simeone is still behind Howe in the race to replace Wenger, the Bournemouth boss is currently at 6/1 to move to the Emirates.

Last week, reports claimed that Arsenal are discussing the possibility of replacing Wenger with Howe. The English man has done well in helping Bournemouth gain promotion to the Premier League and helping them remain in England’s top flight competition. Meanwhile Simeone is a serial winner, he has helped Atletico Madrid win the Spanish La Liga and Copa Del Rey, also reaching the finals of the UCL on two occasions.

Simeone and Howe are both good managers but the Argentine has the edge over his English counterpart in terms of experience on the big stage.
