Big Blow For Arsenal As 2nd January Signing Rules Out Transfer

Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on bolstering his side in the January transfer window for the second half of the 2015/2016 season.

Arsene Wenger’s dream of signing a World class centre forward has been dealt a massive blow for a second transfer window running.

In the summer, Goal.com reported that the Gunners boss tried to follow the marquee signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez with the acquisition of Karim Benzema, only for Madrid to declare the superstar forward unavailable.

The manager’s wish of bringing in a quality forward dragged on to this winter window. Metro reported earlier in the week that Arsenal were prepared to pay a club record transfer fee to acquire the services of Borrusia Dortmund Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and had lodged an initial bid of around £42million.

The Gunners hopes of landing the speedy forward has however been dealt a massive blow with the player twice insisting he has no intention of leaving Dortmund.

The player had initially responded to the idea of transfer by saying “I still want to achieve lots with Dortmund,” he told German publication Sport Bild.

“I am here and nowhere else – not at Arsenal, not at Barcelona, not on the moon – you can see that.” Like that was not enough, he was questioned by a fan in a video “Aubameyang, are you going to join Arsenal?, the player replied “Of course not,” and then laughed.

Aubameyang, recently crowned Africa’s Footballer of the year, has been in imperious form of late. In 2015, the Gabon international scored 41 goals in all competitions, of which 18 have come in 17 Bundesliga matches this campaign. A figure that places him as the division’s top scorer by the year’s end.
