According to reports, Arsenal and Manchester City are in the race to seal the signature of Ajax youngster, Frenkie De Jong.
Frenkie De Jong has been attracting lots of interest from many Premier League sides. However, the most intense interests have come from giants and title contenders – Arsenal and Manchester City. Chelsea are also monitoring the player, reports the Sun.
The Gunners and City are in a good position to sign the Ajax midfielder as his contract with the club is set to expire in 18 months. According to the Sun, the North London side and the Manchester outfit have made concrete plans to bring in the 20 year old youngster.
There are rumours that Chelsea are also on his tail. This could be a race between Arsene Wenger, Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola.
De Jong started his footballing career at Willem II before being bought by Ajax in 2015. He has spent majority of his time at Ajax playing for their second team, Jong Ajax. He recently broke into the senior team after turning out incredible displays for Jong Ajax.
With his contract 18 months from expiration, he could be available for just £5m. It remains to be seen if Ajax will let him go for such a meager fee.
Given Arsene Wenger’s antecedent with Ajax and Dutch players, Arsenal are said to be in pole position for the player’s signature.
