Arsenal tried to sign Borrusia Dortmund striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Wenger made signing a striker it’s priority in the summer transfer window and was linked with a number of targets. It has now been revealed that Aubameyang was one of those targets.

Spanish Publication El Confidencial via the Daily Star has revealed that Arsenal made a bid to sign Aubemyang.

The report claims Arsenal lodged a £52m bid for the striker but the bid was snubbed by his club. BVB were demanding a whooping £87m fee for the striker and Arsenal were reluctant to meet that price.

It would have made the striker the world’s most expensive player at the time, smashing the £86m Madrid paid for Gareth Bale. However, Manchester United have since paid £89m for Paul Pogba.

Aubameyang will now stay at Dortmund with the hope of moving to Real Madrid in the future. The striker scored 25 league goals in 31 games for the Bundesliga side, helping them to second place on the log table.

Chelsea were interested in his services but were also put off by BVB’s asking price.

Arsenal have since completed a move for Lucas Perez who joined from Deportivo La Coruna in the final days of the transfer window for around £17m.
