Francis Coquelin has become a target of Spanish side Valencia, according to a report in Squawka.
Coquelin has been a mainstay in Arsenal’s starting xi since December 2015 and has seen his reputation rise geometrically in the last 18 months. He was recently rewarded with a new four year contract in January but the French man is being targeted by Valencia.
Spanish publication AS claims Valencia are keen on strengthening it’s midfield this summer and Coquelin alongside Malaga’s Ignacio Camacho are their top targets.
Coquelin has found himself more on the bench in recent weeks as Wenger prefers a Xhaka-Ramsey midfield paring in his new 3-4-2-1 formation and Valencia could be looking to take advantage of that.
A tough tackling midfielder, not scared to go into tackles and one that does the dirty job for the team, Coquelin will be a big loss if allowed to leave.
Arsenal are expected to reject Valencia’s advances if they step up their interest in the French man as Wenger is looking to add to his current options in midfield rather than depleting it.
Coquelin joined Arsenal in 2008 and has made 97 league appearances since his arrival and he is expected to play a key role for us in the future.
