Arsenal are monitoring CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin, the Russia club director has confirmed.
Golovin is highly rated in Russia and is currently seen as the future of their national team.
Wenger who has a good eye for talent has apparently spotted the midfielder and has asked to be kept informed about his progress.
Last week, Arsenal were reportedly thought to be closing in on the player but CSKA director Roman Babaev has now revealed that there was no bid from the Gunners for the midfielder. However, he admitted our interest in the 21 year old.
‘No, CSKA did not receive an offer from Arsenal for Golovin.
‘I admit that the London club scouts viewed Alekandr’s Confederations Cup. He was one of the best parts of our team.
‘We are unconcerned about this information, and Alekandre as well.’
Babaev’s comments confirm the words of football agent Oleg Luzhny who recently revealed that Wenger specifically assigned him to watch Golovin in the just concluded Confederations Cup.
‘Arsene Wenger called me and asked me to watch Golovin again,’ Varga told Sports Daily Russia.
‘He was going to come but his scout in Russia sent him six to eight positive reports and so he asked me to watch him instead.’
Golovin broke into CSKA’s first team in 2015 and has continued to impress since then. He is now currently valued at about £10m which wouldn’t be too much for Arsenal to cough out should we step up our interest.
