Thierry Henry has backed Arsenal target and Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe to develop into a great player.

Wenger recently compared the young striker to Henry who also began his career at Monaco, claiming both players have similar traits. The boss also claimed he has been keeping tabs on Mbappe’s development for a long time and even tried to sign him last summer before he signed a new deal at Monaco.

Despite the unsuccessful attempt, Wenger hasn’t ruled out a future move for the youngster, instead he said we would continue to keep tabs on his development until his club decides future.

Henry has now backed the youngster to attain the same level he did, claiming the lad has something “special”.

‘I do not compare, but having met him, I saw he was calm, respectful, and someone who wants to learn,’ Henry told RMC Sports, as quoTed by the Metro.

‘When I first saw him play against Tottenham in the Europa League, as soon as I saw him, I knew he was a player. I said: ‘who is he?’

‘At 16 and a half [years old], he was asking for the ball, he could dribble, he was having shots, he was winning the ball back and he loved the ball.

‘The desire was there. Mbappe has something special, let’s be honest. If he keeps his head on his shoulders, it will come on its own.‘

Mbappe has scored three goals and provided three assists in just six league starts this season.

He is arguably Monaco’s brightest youngster and obviously has the same potential level as Henry.

Hopefully, the striker would keep his head down and continue to improve as a player, he is sure to attract the interests of other big clubs in the future and could be the most sought after footballer in a few years. Perhaps he will snub the interests of other top clubs and line up for Arsenal just like his predecessor.
