Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen on bolstering his side in the January transfer window for the second half of the 2015/2016 season.
Arsenal are preparing to make a move for Watford captain Troy Deeney in the January transfer window, according to reports.
Deeney has been one of the revelations in the Watford squad having scored 6 goals in 11 appearances for Watford side this season.
The reports indicate that the Gunners have spoken to Watford over a shock deal for their captain. This story emerged in selected newspapers on Tuesday but now Talksport confirms that things have gone further with the Gunners making an approach to Watford over the possibility of signing Deeney in this January transfer window.
Arsenal currently occupy the top spot in the Premier League table, two points clear of Leicester City and they are looking to consolidate on their first phase performance by beefing up the squad in a bid to claiming the Premier League crown which the team last won in 2004.
Injuries to key players mean the Gunners need to strengthen in some key areas like defensive midfield and attack where Olivier Giroud is the only recognised centre forward currently in the Arsenal ranks; Theo Walcott has been used as a striker but it is well known that he is not a modern day striker.
Deeney would boost Arsenal’s chances of pushing for the title just as any good addition brought into the team but it would be hard to see Watford sanction the sales of their inspirational skippers as they would rather prefer to stay in the top flight and earn more than cash in on one of their brightest chances at survival in the league just half way through the season.
