It is no secret that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger openly detests the January transfer window, but this season he would need it more than ever, and he knows it.
Surprisingly he has gone on to admit it and promised a busy January transfer window for the club.
“I will be busy that is for sure. I have already said we are short,’ he told reporters when asked about the transfer window”
Arsenal have seen injuries seriously deplete their squad this season with Francis Coquelin, Jack wilshere, Danny Welbeck, Tomas Rosicky and Santi Cazorla all expected not be able to participate fully in the team till the tail end of the season, due to injuries.
Hence, the need for additions. The fact that this would probably be the last season for Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky further stresses the need for replacements early, who would have time to bed into the team before finally replacing the veterans.
Arsenal have reportedly started tranfers with a deal for Basel’s Mohammed Elneny said to be completed, but as always Wenger is playing coy with confirming the deal
“You know more than me,’ he said. ‘Sadly we cannot announce anything yet.”
