Arsenal have rejected Juventus’ bid for Wojciech Szczesny, according to reports.

Reports first emerged a fortnight ago that Juventus are looking to sign Szczesny as a replacement for Buffon who is set to retire at the end of next season.

It was claimed that the Italian giants have received encouragement from Szczesny’s camp and were confident a deal can be struck with Arsenal.

It appears that confidence has led Juventus wrongly after Arsenal rejected their initial bid last night.

According to Sky Sports, Juventus tabled an official bid worth around £4m for Szczesny but it was swiftly rejected by Arsenal.

The Gunners reportedly value the goalkeeeper three times more and will hold out for at least a €14.7m bid to part with the Poland international.

The report claims Wenger is prepared to keep the Pole as backup to Petr Cech next season and allow him leave for free when his contract expires next year instead of selling him less than €14.7m.

Szczesny spent the last two years on loan at Roma where he impressed and established himself as one of Serie A’s best shot stoppers but that seem not to be enough to convince clubs to meet Arsenal’s valuation.

Napoli and AC Milan are also keen on the goalkeeeper but none of them are willing to meet Arsenal’s demands.

Szczesny may now be left with the option of forcing a move after stating on numerous occasions that he will not return to the Emirates to sit on the bench.

I don’t think Arsenal would want to keep an unhappy player in its squad, so it is likely that a move could happen if Juventus increases their offer closer to the Gunners valuation.
